RED STAR SOUNDS VOLUME 1
"SOUL SEARCHIN'"
In Stores October 9th!

On October 9, 2001, Epic Records and Red Star Records will release Red Star Sounds Volume I: Soul Searchin’—a compilation of “neo-soul music” fea-turing new recordings by some of the most innovative and acclaimed artists on the American music scene.

Soul Searchin’ is the first in a series of joint-venture releases by Epic Records and Red Star Records, a new label created by the not-for-profit Heineken Foundation. New York-based entertainment marketing agency, The Stronghold Group, created the business relationship with Epic and is overseeing the marketing initiative for the project on behalf of The Heineken Foundation. The Heineken Foun-dation has designated VH1’s “Save the Music” education program as the beneficiary for this inaugural release.

Following is an alphabetical list of the artists who are featured Red Star Sounds Volume I: Soul Searchin’:

· India Arie – “Butterfly”
· Erykah Badu – “Today”
· Nelly Furtado – “Legend (Live Version”
· Macy Gray – “We Got Enough”
· Amel Larrieux featuring The Roots – “Glitches”
· Lathun – “Sweetest Thing”
· Glenn Lewis – “Don't You Forget It”
· Jack Herrera featuring Jon B. – “High Off You”
· Damian "Junior Gong" Marley featuring Stephen Marley & Yami Bolo – “Still Searching”
· Jill Scott – “A Long Walk” (A Touch of Jazz Remix)
· Brad Young – “So Sweet”

“Glitches” by Amel Larrieux featuring The Roots is the premier single from Soul Searchin’. This track marks the first collaboration between the sophisticated New York soul singer-songwriter and the funky Philly hip-hop collective. Formerly of Groove Theory, Amel Larrieux released her acclaimed solo debut Infinite Possibilities on Epic Records in 2000.

“Don't You Forget It” by Glenn Lewis will be the second single from Soul Searchin’. A native of Toronto, Glenn Lewis wrote his first song at age 14, inspired by the music of Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder and the Gap Band’s Charlie Wilson. He later wrote and produced his first independent single, “The Thing To Do,” which earned him a nomination in the Juno Awards (the Canadian Grammies) for Best Soul/R&B Recording. Lewis repeated this success the following year with a second Juno Award nomination for another independently released single, “’Bout Your Love.” With its infectious melody and an arrangement reminiscent of Stevie Wonder’s Songs In The Key Of Life, “Don't You Forget It” offers an auspicious sample of Glenn Lewis’ forthcoming debut album on Rock Star Entertainment/Epic Records.

The Stronghold Group specializes in licensing, merchandising, sponsor-ships, and integrated marketing campaigns within the music and entertainment marketplace. Most recently, Stronghold was responsible for bringing the Heineken Foundation and Red Star Records together with Epic Records.

The Heineken Foundation will support the October launch of Soul Searchin’with album release parties in New York and Los Angeles, and dedicated television, print, radio and Internet advertising, as well as in-store point-of-sale. Music from Soul Searchin’ will also be featured in music videos and other broadcast programming.
